Renowned writer Bhyrappa to inaugurate Mysuru dasara festival

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday said the state government has decided to release Rs 20.50 crore to organise the world famous Mysuru dasara festival between September 29 and October 8.

Also, he announced that renowned Kannada writer and literary figure S L Bhyrappa has been chosen to inaugurate the dasara celebrations.

Yediyurappa chaired a high-level committeemeeting on the preparations for the festival.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting attended by public representatives from Mysuru region and officials, he said, "On behalf of the government, we have decided to release Rs 20.50 crore immediately, we will clear it in the cabinet."

Asked whether government plans to organise thefestival in a simple way due to the floods in several parts of the state, the Chief Minister said, "The festival will happen just the way it has in the past."


At the meeting, he directed officials to give priority to homegrown talent to be part of the festivities.

Several literary and cultural events, along with exhibition and sports activities, would be a part of the 10-day-longfestivity, considered as "Nada Habba" (state festival).

In 2018, the Mysuru Dasara was celebrated with the government spending Rs 17.83 crore.
