Opposition PDP today said allegation of a secret unit set up by former Army Chief V K Singh during his tenure trying to destabilise the Omar Abdullah government is "the most embarrassing poster of our democratic system."

He said the exposure should lead to introspection to sort out issues of empowerment of democratic institutions of the state.

"The recent reports about Army's intrusion into the state politics is the most embarrassing poster of our democratic system and the exposure should lead to introspection at the highest level to sort out issues of empowerment of the democratic institutions of the state," PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed said here.

According to reports in a section of the press, the Technical Support Division set up by Singh during his tenure had attempted to destabilise the J&K government. Singh has dubbed the allegations as "most absurd".

Mufti alleged that central agencies were involved in rigging of elections in Jammu and Kashmir in 2008, and asked the Centre to "discipline its security establishment in their handling" of the state.

"Vibrant democracy in the state would solve half of Kashmir's problems. Union government should discipline its security establishments in their handling of J&K," he said while addressing public meeting at Gadhigarh area here.

The PDP leader said Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to grow as the most developed state of the country but for that to happen, the people have to give a decisive mandate to PDP.

"Give us a decisive mandate and through our inclusive, people-friendly policies, we will give you an empowered and developed, modern welfare state," Mufti said.
