The rhino was found with bullet injuries on the forehead by the forest personnel inside Haregari Kathoni yesterday, Range Officer of Sixth Addition Kaziranga National Park Pranjal Baruah said.
The officials said the rhino was suspected to have been killed on the night of May 29.
Baruah said the forest staff had heard six rounds of firing but were unable to locate the place in the dense forest.
An empty cartridge has been recovered from the spot and a case has been registered under Wildlife Protection Act and Arms Act, the official said.
This is the fifth rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga National Park this year.
