Rhino shot at, injured

A rhino, which strayed out of the Kaziranga National Park, was shot at and seriously injured by suspected poachers in Assam's Sonitpur district today, forest officials said.

The animal had strayed from the Park's northern range and was shot at near Bihpukhuri in Bishwanath Chariali area of the district.

It received serious injuries in the back and was under treatment.

Forest department personnel along with the local people have launched a search operation to nab the miscreants, sources added.
