The national capital sizzled with a maximum of 43.1 degrees celsius, the highest this season.
In Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad at 45.3 degrees celsius was the hottest place followed by Ballia which recorded 45 degrees celsius, six degrees above normal.
Banda, Orai, Amethi, Barabanki and Varanasi all recorded temperatures which were above 44 degrees, sources said adding that state capital Lucknow recorded 43.8 degrees which was four degrees above normal.
Temperature remained appreciably above normal in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Moradabad and Meerut divisions while it was above normal in Bareilly, Jhansi divisions.
In Rajasthan, Barmer, Churu and Sri Ganganagar recorded temperatures higher than 40 degrees celsius.
The blistering heat wave sweeping many parts of Punjab and Haryana continued unabated with Hisar, Rohtak and Amritsar experiencing severe heat.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 42.4 degrees Celsius, up three notches while the high at Ludhiana settled at 42.2 degrees Celsius, also three degrees above normal, the MeT office said here.
Patiala, too, had a hot day at 42.5 degrees Celsius, up four notches. MORE
