Police today seized Rs 16 lakh cash in legal currencies from a car in Medak district of Telangana and detained two persons as they failed to explain the source of the money.
"A car was stopped during a routine check of vehicles today on the outskirts of Ramayampet town. During the search, we found Rs 16 lakh inside the car. We have detained car occupants B.Srinivas and D.Raju as they couldn't explain the source of the money," said Ramayampet police station sub- inspector Nagarjun Goud.
He said Rs 15.90 lakh in the seized currency are in denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 10,000 in denomination of Rs 100.
Police handed out the seized money to Income Tax officials for further investigation.
