SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal today accused the Congress-led government in Punjab of not allowing discussion on the adjournment motion moved by the SAD-BJP legislators in the Assembly to discuss of plight farmers in the state.

He told reporters that the SAD-BJP legislators were forced to stage a walk-out from the Assembly protesting the government's "refusal" to debate the plight of Punjab farmers.

Badal claimed that the government had made announcements of a complete loan waiver, cleared the proposal in a Cabinet meeting and even passed a notification to this effect but nothing happened at the ground level.

"Nothing has happened on the ground and no farmer's loan has been waived till now. In fact, the government's false announcements have ruined farmers, who have been declared defaulters by banks because they stopped paying interest on loans.

"Now, they are being forced to take loans from private money lenders as banks are refusing to extend this facility to them," he told reporters in the press gallery of the Assembly.

The SAD president alleged that the manner in which the proceeding of the Assembly were carried out today proved that the ruling Congress and the opposition AAP were working in tandem.

"The AAP wants the government not to target (Sukhpal Singh) Khaira. To achieve this it has abandoned all issues and also agreed not to target the government. That's why you are seeing both the Congress and the AAP targeting the SAD," he said.
