The Haryana government today said the project to revive Saraswati river has drawn attention of Australia and Japan and talks are on with them regarding research on the subject.
In an official release, the Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board's president Prashant Bhardwaj said a delegation from Australia has offered its support in rejuvenation of the river during a recent meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
He also said work on archaeological research of Harappan civilisation is underway by a South Korean university at Rakhigarhi near Jind.
With a view to generate awareness about the river, seminars are also being organised at college and university level.
Bharadwaj said "Rashtriya Saraswati Mahotsav" will be organised in February 2017 as a part of state's golden jubilee celebrations.
Scientists from about 20 countries would be invited in the festival including those from the renowned research institutes and universities, he added.
Announcing that the government is planning to set up a Centre for Research at Kurukshetra University, he said Saraswati Mahotsav would be organised at an international level in 2018.
He said work on an extensive research project is in progress under which research institutes of national and international repute and universities would be invited to conduct research on subjects like archeology, environmental studies, climate change, river technology, water conservation, irrigation and flood control management.
Bharadwaj said the coordination committee of seven districts on Saraswati Heritage Project constituted by the Central Government is exploring possibilities in tourism sector besides rejuvenation of Saraswati river which also include developing tourism corridor from Bandipur glacier to Kutch.
