City-based FIDE Master Sayantan Das pipped FM Arvindh Chithambaram of Tamil Nadu to emerge champion in the National Junior Championship that concluded in Lucknow today.

It was Das' third straight age group title having won U-15, U-17 and U-19 Nationals earlier all in a span of one year.

According to information received here, the class XI student of Scottish Church Collegiate School finished with 9.5 points to top the championship ahead of Chithambaram who finished second with nine points.

In the last game of 11-round Swiss League tournament, Das (FIDE rating 2368) needed just half point to seal his supremacy in the tournament and did it by splitting point with higher rated player Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan (2415) of Kerala.

Das thus finished with 9.5 points out of possible 11, while Chithambaram of Tamil Nadu logged 9.

Last month, Das won the U-17 National in Guwahati and in September last year the Alekhine Chess Club student had won the U-15 title in Nagpur.
