The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) today set up a seven-member internal committee to look into the complaints of sexual harassment of women at workplace.

"The internal committee shall look into all complaints of sexual harassment of women at workplace in the DIPP and Economic Adviser and devise effective measures to ensure a better environment for women at workplace," the commerce and industry ministry said in an office memorandum.

It would also welcome complaints, grievances or suggestions, if any, in this regard to ensure a congenial atmosphere to the working of men and women, it added.

The presiding officer of the committee would be Sunita Yadav, Director in the DIPP. Other members from the department include Harmeet Minhas Kumar, Gurpreet Ghadok and Puja Rastogi.

The committee is in consonance with the guidelines laid down by Supreme Court in its judgement in Vishaka case for dealing with complaints of sexual harassment at workplace.

Under the guidelines, it is required that the panel has a majority of female members and two members of civil society nominated by the Chief Justice of India.
