After its premier at IFFI in this November, Kaushik Ganguly's 'Apur Panchali', focussing on the beyond reel journey of child Apu a.K.A Subir Banerjee, will start its voyage in public domain in January.

"Proud to announce that the world premiere of the film will be at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, on the 25th of this month," director Kaushik said after the first look unveil of the movie here.

While critically acclaimed actor Parno Mitra plays Ashima, Subir's wife in the movie, Parambrata Chatterjee essays the Subir of younger age.

"Apu is the most known child character of Indian cinema but the boy who injected life into it, has completely been taken off from our minds. Even if he is sitting at a movie hall beside us these days, we would not recognize. 'Apur Panchali' tells you the story of the life of the man behind Apu," the 'Shabdo' maker said.

"I play a SRFTI graduate in the film who comes in contact with Subir and shoots his journey into life. Being an alumni of FTII, Pune perhaps helped in understading the nuances, egos and all," Laptop actor Gourab Chakraborty said.

"Four of our recent films are going to IFFI. And proud to be part of one of these - Apur Panchali," Gourab said.

The first look launch of the movie, produced by Sri Venkatesh films, had a shot of Parambrata and Parno leaving the village in cycle rickshaw rekindling the last shot of 'Pather Panchali' when the family journeys in a bullock cart scalded by the death of its only daughter.
