Press Trust of India Islamabad
Pakistan today said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sent a former senior diplomat to India as part of the track-II diplomacy to complement and support peace efforts.

Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary said former foreign secretary Shahryar Ahmad Khan had been asked by Sharif to conduct Track-II diplomacy and he is already in India for the purpose.

"The diplomacy has always been part of overall peace process with India, complementing and supporting efforts for peace wherever possible," he said.

Sharif during his election campaign has promised to take the peace process forward. He has expressed desire to move ahead in ties by "picking up the threads" from the peace process in 1999 when former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee made a landmark visit to Lahore.
