Shiv Sena workers today blocked the National Highway here to protest against the shortage of power and water in the winter capital.

Raising slogans against the government and state power ministry, the Shiv Sainiks blocked the highway for a few hours.

State Shiv Sena President Dimpy Kohli said unscheduled power cuts had made life "hell" for people during the hot summer months.

"Without electricity in several parts of the city for 3 to 4 hours it is very difficult to live when mercury is going up upto 45 degrees," he said.

He alleged that promises of uninterrupted power supply made by the BJP-PDP government are now proving to be hollow slogans.

"When people are paying their electricity bills in time then why is power department resorting to unscheduled power cuts," he asked.
