All preparations have been made for the polls to Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) which will vote tomorrow to elect a new general body.

More than 12 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the twin cities, distant suburbs of Mumbai, where over 700 candidates are in the fray for 117 seats which are up for grabs.

The voters will elect their 117 civic representatives among the candidates put up by main political parties like Shiv Sena, BJP, Congress, NCP and MNS. Independents, too, are contesting.

While Shiv Sena and BJP, allies in the State and at the Centre, are contesting the civic polls separately, the Congress and NCP have seat-sharing arrangement.

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of BJP and MNS chief Raj Thackeray carried out intense electioneering.

War of words between the Sena and BJP leaders during the electioneering generated a lot of heat in the State politics. However, campaigning by Congress and NCP was a low-key affair.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for peaceful conduct of the polls, officials said today.

The counting of votes will take place on November 2.
