Actor Steve Carell is being eyed for a "Minecraft" movie.

According to Variety, the Oscar-nominated actor is currently in negotiation stage to board Warner Bros' big-screen adaptation of the popular cube-centric videogame, which was reportedly the second best-selling game of all time.

The studio acquired film rights to the video game franchise in February from Swedish developer Mojang AB.

The film will be directed by Rob McElhenney, who also co-wrote the latest draft with Jason Fuchs ("Pan", "Ice Age: Continental Drift").

Details about Carell's role and the movie are still kept under wraps.

Meanwhile, in the game, which was launched in 2009, players are allowed to create their own avatars and build an environment using textured cubes in a 3D world as they battle nocturnal monsters.

Carell is known for providing the voice of Gru in Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's "Despicable Me" movie franchise.

He recently appeared in Woody Allen's "Cafe Society". He can next be seen in true-life movie "Battle of the Sexes" opposite Emma Stone.
