Uttar Pradesh government today gave its approval to slap Gangster and Goonda acts on those caught in cognisable offences like cow slaughter and human trafficking.
The state government approved a draft to amend Gangster and Goonda acts to include cow slaughter, money laundering, human trafficking, fake currency in its ambit.
Earlier, these crimes were in the category of cognisable offences.

"The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav," an official spokesman said here.
In another decision, the Cabinet also hiked paddy purchase price to Rs 1,400 per quintal.
It also decided to felicitate teachers of Arabi-Persian madrasa with the state honour.
