A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging after being harassed by her school teacher who wanted her to take private tuitions from him at Bilhaur village here, police said today.
The class IX student took the extreme step last night while her family was asleep, Kanpur SSP, Shalabh Mathur said.
A case has been registered against accused, Alok Kumar Yadav, he said, adding efforts are on to arrest him.
As per a complaint registered by the girl's family, the accused used to harass her and coaxed her to join his private tuitions.
The girl had complained to her family on Tuesday that Yadav beat her up over homework and misbehaved with her, police said.
Further investigation is on in the matter, they added.
