The CBI has registered a case against a Sub-Postmaster for alleged misappropriation of funds under MGNREG scheme to the tune of Rs 37 lakh.
The case against Sub-Postmaster Botsa Peda Rama Rao has been filed by the Visakhapatnam Branch of the Central agency, an official release said here today.
The allegation is that Rao, while working as Sub- Postmaster at Donkinavalasa near here between 2013 and 2015, dishonestly and fraudulently, forged and falsified the Branch Office Daily Accounts pertaining to distribution of wages under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

He charged/claimed an amount of about Rs 41 lakh from Head Post Office, Bobbili in the district against disbursed amount of about Rs 4 lakh. Thereby, he misappropriated an amount of Rs 37 lakh, allotted under MGNREGS, said R Gopala Krishna Rao, Superintendent of Police (CBI-ACB) Visakhapatnam in the release.
After registration of the case last week, searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused person at Vizianagaram and certain incriminating documents seized, it added.
