A complex brain tumour was successfully removed from a 10-year-old Sudanese boy by a city hospital.

Mohammed Omer was referred to tertiary care from Oman to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH) and neurologist, Dr Arul Selvan, analysed him.

He suffered excruciating pain on the left side of his face which prevented him from attending school.Doctors at KMCH found the tumour in the medial temporal lobe (deeper brain) close to vital structures and nerves that supply sensation to the face, Dr JKBC Parthiban, senior Neurosurgeon of KMCH, said in a release today.

Subsequently the tumour was removed in a four hour operation, he said.

Omer has now totally recovered from the pain, was stable and healthy and would be discharged in five days, he said

KMCH Chairman Dr Nalla G Palaniswami said Coimbatore has now become one of the preferred medical destinations for patients from abroad, particularly from African and Arab countries.
