Sugar weakens further on subdued demand

Sugar prices weakened further at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to subdued demand from stockists and retailers amid sustained selling pressure from mills.

'Lower international markets also not supporting the sugar prices, a trader said.

Medium sugar (M-30) dropped by Rs 12/62 per quintal to Rs 2,590/2,750 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 2,602/ 2,812.

Small sugar (S-30) slid by Rs 34 to Rs 2,442/2,625 per quintal as compared to Rs 2,476/2,625 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,442/2,625 (Rs 2,476/2,625).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,590/2,750 (Rs 2,602/2,812).
