Eighty-eight exquisite paintings of the Tanjore and Mysore schools today went on display at the renovated galleries of the National Museum in the capital.
Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch inaugurated the renovated Gallery of Tanjore and Mysore Schools of South Indian Paintings at the National Museum here today.
Among the Tanjore School of paintings on display include Navneeta Krishna with Tanjore King Shivaji II dating back to 1830; Nataraja Shiva and Rama Pattabhisheikha, both of the early 19th century and Durbar of Serfoji II dated 1798-1833.

The Mysore School gallery has on display late 18th century paintings depicting the marriage ceremonies of Shiva with Parvati, and Sita with Rama Sandhya Tandava of Lord Shiva before Parvati and 19th century paintings which show Hanuman stopping Bharata for entering into fire; Devi Saraswati, Rama Darbar and Gita Sermon.
The renovated gallery has elaborate captions, text panels, and slide show of Tanjore and Mysore schools.
This permanent gallery will remain open to the public every day from 10:00 a.M. To 5:00 p.M. Except Mondays, an official release said.
