Tata Steel Q2 hot metal output up 4.87 pc

Tata Steel today reported a 4.87 per cent increase in its hot metal production at 2.58 million tonnes (MT) in the August-September quarter of this fiscal compared to the same period a year-ago.

The steel major had recorded an output of 2.46 MT in July-September, 2013-14.

"Tata Steel registered hot metal production of 2.58 MT in Q2 and 5.11 MT in H1 (up by 4 per cent y-o-y)," the steel giant said in a statement.

Crude steel production was almost flat at 2.27 MT in the second quarter. Saleable steel production increased marginally by 0.3 per cent y-o-y to 2.2 MT in the quarter under review.
 

"Deliveries were 2.11 MT in Q2 (up by 4 per cent y-o-y) and 4.21 MT in H1 (up by 4 per cent y-o-y)," it said.

The company said its pellet plant has achieved best ever Q2 production of 1.40 MT (previous best 1.15 MT in Q2 FY'14), and best ever H1 production of 2.81 MT (previous best 2.19 MT in H1 FY'14).

The company also said that Tata Steel has become the first steel company in India to receive accreditation from Indian Road Congress (IRC), for usage of processed steel slag in road making.

Shares of the company closed at Rs 457.80, up 2.14 per cent from the previous close on the BSE.
