Teenage girl charred to death as hut catches fire

: A teenage girl was charred to death when her thatched hut at Thammampatty village was gutted in a fire while she was cooking meals today, police said

Her parents, both farm labourers had gone for work and her brother had gone to school when the incident occurred, they said.

Police said they are investigating the father's claim that he had kept a five soverign gold chain and Rs 20,000 in cash in the house.
