Coast Guard rescues Indian crew member after serious fall

Acting swiftly, the Coast Guard (Eastern region) today provided medical emergency aid to an Indian crew member of a ship travelling from Singapore to Antwerp after he sustained a serious head injury in a fall.

Abdul Kadeer sustained the injury due to a serious fall on the ship's deck early today. The ship made an emergency call to Coast Guard East which sent a vessel with a medical team to rescue the injured person, an official release said.

The Coast Guard ship provided first aid to the crew member and arrived at Tuticorin harbour, after which he was rushed to a private hospital for further treatment, it said.
