A 15-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by two men in an empty railway coach at Katni railway station, police said today.
The accused, identified as Shivam (26) and Yashwant (27), have been arrested, a police official said.
According to police, the teenager was "sold" to Shivam for Rs 25,000 by her maternal aunt.
Katni's Government Railway Police station assistant sub-inspector Harinarayan Trivedi said the girl was living with her aunt in Sidhi town following a tiff with her mother.
"Shivam came in contact with the girl's maternal aunt who sold the victim to him at Rs 25,000 on July 5. Shivam had promised to marry the teenager," he said.
Trivedi said Shivam took the girl to Garhakota town in Sagar district.
"However, when the girl realised that he was not going to marry her, she insisted to go back to Sidhi. During this period, Shivam raped her on multiple occasions," the ASI said.
While returning to Sidhi, Shivam sought help of his friend Yashwant at Katni.
"Yashwant raped the girl in a vacant coach at Katni railway station yesterday," Trivedi said, adding that police arrested both the accused from the coach on a tip-off.
Police are looking for the maternal aunt of the girl and another relative.
The accused duo were booked under various sections of the IPC, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
