Thailand a major destination for Indian tourists

Press Trust of India Coimbatore

To prove his point, Sethaphan Buddhani, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) claimed that over 100 Indian couples chose to get married in Thailand during the last 12 months alone.

Buddhani, here to participate in a road show organised by TAT, said the 100 couples got married in typical Indian Hindu tradition, performed at various places such as Bangkok, Khao Yai, Ko Chang and Phuket.

To help in such religious ceremonies, TAT has engaged 30 wedding planners in India, who serve as event managers and help the couples and families make all arrangements, end to end, including priests and halls, he said.

The Authority is expecting at least 1.3 million Indian tourists this year as against 9.24 lakh, an increase of 10.37 per cent over 2011, and to attract more, the country is promoting eco-tourism and biking tourism (adventure sports), Bhddhani said.
