Alleging atrocities on a married woman by here in-laws that provoked her to commit suicide, a mob attacked three members of a family and left them badly injured today in a village in Bihar's Katihar district, a police officer said.
Hours after Rajesh Mandal's wife Rupa Devi (24) committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance in Halfa village, a strong mob gathered at his house and brutally beat him and his parents leaving them grievously injured, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rakesh Kumar said.
The villagers alleged that the young woman had died due to persistent torture on her by her in-laws and her husband whose first wife too had died in similar manner nearly three years ago he said.

Apprehending that the mob may lynch the three family members, additional police reinforcement were called from five police stations to rescue them from clutches of the villagers, Kumar said, adding that all three injured persons have been brought to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) for treatment where the condition of Mandal's mother Asha Devi was stated to be serious.
The SDPO said that the villagers were angry with Mandal family over death of three young women, two wives of Rajesh Mandal and a wife of his another sibling in the recent years under suspicious circumstances.
Mandal's wife had committed suicide earlier in the day by consuming poisonous substance apparently after being fed up with atrocities being perpetrated on her and her minor daughter by the family members, Kumar said.
