Three missing as boat capsizes in Hooghly in Bengal

Three persons went missing after a boat capsized in the Hooghly river in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred near Mangal PandeY Ghat here on Saturday evening.

A search operation by disaster management personnel is on for three missing persons, who have not been identified so far, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate Deputy Commissioner (Zone 1) Ajay Kumar Thakur said.

A group of six locals took a country boat "forcefully" and rowed straight into the stream without a boatman. Suddenly, their boat capsized, he said.

"Three of them swam safely to the bank while three are still missing," Thakur added.

 

According to sources, they were in inebriated state.
