Three prisoners escape from police lockup

Three alleged criminals today escaped from a police station lockup in Munger district of Bihar prompting the police to launch a manhunt.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanjay Kumar Singh said the incident happened at Naya Ram Nagar police station during the wee hours and the three persons escaped after breaking open the lock of the cell they were lodged in.

"The three have been identified as Santosh Singh, Jogi Kumar and Bhutto Singh. They had been arrested last night from Nauagarhi area under Naya Ram Nagar police station for possessing two unlicensed pistols and ammunition," Singh said.

The ASP said the three are residents of Sita Kund area in the district and are wanted in several cases of murder, dacoity and burglary.
 

"Our teams are conducting continuous raids to nab them. We are also probing the incident to find out lapses on the part of the police," he added.
