Seeking to expand its base in the north-eastern region, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today set up its unit in Sikkim.
Former deputy Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pur Tsering Luksom has been made the party's state unit president.
"Luksom joined the Trinamool Congress and he has been made the president of the TMC's Sikkim unit, which was launched today," party general secretary Mukul Roy said.

A founder member of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front, Luksom had been removed from the post of deputy chief minister for alleged anti-party activities.
The TMC has already set up its state units in Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya and contested various elections in these states.
