TN hikes pay for PDS shop employees

: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced an about 14.87 per cent hike in the salary of the employees of Public Distribution System, benefiting 25,635 employees.
As many as 25,635 employees including assistants employed in 32,219 fair price shops would receive a pay hike of 12.14 per cent to 14.87 per cent as per the revised pay structure, Jayalalithaa said in an official release.
Based upon the work experience, salesmen will receive a minimum hike of Rs 997 to a maximum of Rs 2,048 while assistants will get a hike of Rs 978 to a maximum of Rs 1,873. The hike in pay would cost a sum of Rs 51.65 crore additional expenses to government, she said.

Stating that the government has announced an increase in the consolidated pay of the employees from a minimum of Rs 5,000 to a maximum of Rs 11,000 from next year onwards, she said the revised pay structure would be implemented immediately.
She said the increase in pay was based on the recommendations made by a salary hike committee set up by her to revise the pay structure.
