Top seeds Abhishek Pradhan and Urwashi Joshi, both of Maharashtra, proved their mettle to emerge triumphant in the men's and women's sections of the Otters Club Squash Open here on Sunday.

Pradhan defeated his state-mate Rahul Baitha in three straight games in the men's final.

Defending champion Urwashi overcame Aparajitha Balamurukan of Tamil Nadu in the women's final, also in straight games, to win the crown.

In the men's final, India no 6 Pradhan prevailed 12-10 in the first game after the two players were locked at 10-10.

Baitha looked a bit drained of energy after the opening game and Pradhan took advantage to clinch the next two games 11-5, 11-6 and sew up the title.

Aparajitha, who was expected to give a tough fight, looked completely out of sorts in the women's title contest.

She was totally outclassed 11-1 by Urwashi in the opening game.

Urwashi, who had not dropped a single game in the tournament, proved to be an unstoppable force as she again overwhelmed Aparajitha 11-6 to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third game, Aparajitha fought back and did not allow Urwashi to race away with the game.

After a close contest for the major part, Urwashi upped her tempo and scored successive points to win it 11-8 and completed a comprehensive victory.
