: Forest officials have set a trap to nab a leopard which had attacked eight dogs and killed another in the last one week by entering residential areas and farms near kalakadu tiger reserve forest area in the district.

The leopard had attacked the dogs in Kalliyaru, Sivapuram and Kozhikal areas, causing panic among the residents.

Forest officials then intensified patrolling. Farmers also formed groups to protect their farm land. Yesterday the feline had entered a farm and killed a dog and taken it's carcass away.

A trap with a live dog has been set up near Manimutharu, forest department officials said.

Trained hounds are being used to hunt for the leopard, they said, adding that farmers in the area had also requested them to trap the feline at the earliest so they could carry on farming operations.
