Trough causes heavy rains in Visakhapatnam, nearby areas

The Visakhapatnam district and surrounding areas are experiencing heavy rains since last night under the influence of a 'trough' formed over the Bay of Bengal, weather officials said here today.

The trough in west central bay is continuing and the entire coastal belt of Srikakulam, Vizianagram and Visakhpatnam would experience rains for another day, they said.

Visakhapatnam city has received 14 cm rainfall since yesterday, they said, adding normal life was paralysed due to the downpour.

Low-lying areas and housing colony in Palavalasa village in Pedagantyada mandal were inundated, they said.

The weather officials have predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the coastal areas in the next 24 hours.
