Two workers have died in a mining accident in Canada, local media reported today.
First Nickel said "an accident occurred at its underground operations" at its Lockerby Mine near Sudbury, Ontario, adding that rescue operations were launched "to locate and assess the condition of two contractors."
All other mine staff have reported in safely, the company added in a statement. Underground mining activities have been halted, it said.
Public broadcaster CBC, citing government officials, said the two workers had died.
