Two drown in Bhavani river in Erode district

Tragedy struck a bereaved family when a 36-year-old man drowned along with another person while immersing the ashes of his grandmother in Bhavani river in this district today, police said.

Mohan accidentally slipped and fell into the river and was washed away, even as his relatives screamed for help.

A washerman who tried to rescue him also drowned, they said.

On receiving information, Fire and Rescue services personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies, police said.

A case has been registered and investigation is on.
