U'khand govt to form committee for identifying backward areas

"A committee, headed by a retired IAS officer, would be set up to identify backward blocks, which need infrastructure development...A separate fund of Rs 100 crore would be established for the infrastructure development of the state," Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna told a public meeting at Gopeshwar in Chamoli district.

He said the government has also drafted an action plan for the development of border districts and check migration of youths from the hilly areas.

Bahuguna said his government will try to evolve a consensus among political parties for organising assembly sessions in Gairsain in Chamoli.

He also announced setting up of an engineering college, a polytechnic and an ITI in Chamoli district.
