Meghna Ghai-Puri, daughter of veteran Bollywood producer Subhash Ghai, has been awarded a honorary fellowship by UK's Bradford College for her contributions to the film and media industry.

The fellowship was awarded to Meghna, president of the Mumbai-based Whistling Woods International Institute of film, television and media arts, in the presence of a select gathering during an event held at Bradford College yesterday.

Meghna is the youngest Indian woman in recent times to receive an honorary fellowship from a UK university and the only Asian woman to receive the Bradford College's fellowship.

Receiving the fellowship, she said: "I am honoured on being recognised for my contribution to Whistling Woods International, a school that is committed to have the finest educators working towards sharpening talent with skills to succeed."

She added, "I take this honour to thank Bradford College for supporting and acknowledging our attempt in stepping up global standards of film and media education."

The event was attended by Richard Wightman, Chair of the Bradford Corporation, Bradford College Principal Kathryn Oldale, Bradford College Group Chief Executive Michele Sutton, and Bradford Whistling Woods Film School director Trevor Griffiths.

Wightman and Oldale presented the honorary fellowship to Meghna.

Bradford College is one of the largest and most well known colleges in Britain.

Over the past few years, Bradford and Whistling Woods have engaged in several joint activities like student co-productions, student and faculty exchanges and summer school programmes.

In 2012, recognising the quality and uniqueness of Whistling Woods' film education structure, Bradford College invited the institute to set up a campus in collaboration with them. This led to the The Bradford-Whistling Woods Film School that commenced operations in September.
