Heads of private unaided schools of Uttarakhand today opposed the 'Fees Control and Disposal of Complaints Bill 2015', meant for regulating fee structure in private schools, terming the legislation as "draconian".

Around 200 heads of private unaided schools of Uttarakhand affiliated to the CBSE/ICSE/Uttarakhand board called on Chief Minister Harish Rawat to register their protest against the Bill saying that the "draconian" legislation will jeopardize the future of children.

The Chief Minister, meanwhile assured the delegation that final touches to the Bill and guidelines for private unaided schools will be given only after taking them into confidence, an official release here said.

Reminding them that the countrywide reputation of Uttarakhand's private schools comes from the quality of education imparted by them over decades, Rawat asked them to maintain high standards of teaching in their schools.

Asking them to be transparent about their admission procedure and fee structure, the Chief Minister said private schools should develop a self-regulatory mechanism which does not leave room for any loopholes.

He said the state government has no intention to interfere in the internal management and style of functioning of private schools as long as they maintain high standards of teaching.

The Bill is expected to be taken up in the winter session of state assembly next month.
