Under-trial inmate dies in UP jail

A 70-year-old under-trial prisoner apparently died due to illness in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district jail today, an official said.

Shrikishan, arrested in a rape case in July, was rushed to the district hospital in a serious condition, but was declared "brought dead", according to the jail superintendent.

The jail authorities have recommended a judicial inquiry.
