Chaotic and unruly scenes were witnessed outside the Eden Gardens stadium this morning with thousands of KKR supporters trying to enter there for watching the felicitation to be accorded to the IPL winning team.
Supporters had started flocking early morning to attend the programme where KKR co-owners Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla and players were scheduled be present, police sources said.
At times, police had to wield lathis to disperse the crowd with the help of the Mounted Police, they said.
The stadium authorities opened the gates at 11:00 AM to enable supporters to enter well ahead of the start of the programme scheduled at 1:00 PM, but it was delayed.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee also altered her schedule to attend the ceremony.
