The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to demolish three temporary structures built during construction of a flyover near BSP supremo Mayawati's residence to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

BSP had earlier objected to the structures near Mayawati's 13, Mall Avenue residence, claiming that these posed a "security threat" to its chief.

The decision was today taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

"For ensuring smooth flow of traffic, three temporary rooms near 13, Mall Avenue can be demolished. Permission in this regard has been given by the cabinet," an official spokesman said.

Three more rooms there will be handed over to the Home department for construction of check posts.

The matter was raised in the Legislative Council by BSP member Lokesh Prajapati and others, who had claimed that the rooms posed a security threat to Mayawati and demanded that they be demolished.
