A nine-year-old girl died and over 100 people were taken ill after drinking contaminated water in several localities of Mubarakpur area here today.
Mahjabin died during treatment at Mubarakpur Health Centre, while over 100 people were hospitalised in Haidrabad, Islampura, Purasofi, Samaudhi, Purwadeevan and Purarani areas after they complained of stomach ache and vomiting, sources said.
People fell ill due to consumption of contaminated water, said Dr Aziz Ahmad In-charge of Mubarakpur Community Health Centre, where about 12 people are undergoing treatment.
Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Anil Mishra said that as a precautionary measure supply of water in the affected areas has been suspended.
Health teams have been rushed to the affected areas, he said.
