Puerto Rican police and federal US law enforcement agents have seized 600 kilogrammes (1,322 pounds) of cocaine in a central town on the Caribbean island.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said in a statement yesterday that the cocaine haul was detected during a routine operation in Caguas.

Island police found the bricks of cocaine bundles stacked in the back of a van. Authorities say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. No arrests have been made.

US agents confiscated the cocaine, which were estimated to have a street value of USD 14 million.
