V K Saxena appointed KVIC chairman

Former Chairman of Dholera Port project in Gujarat and a social worker, V K Saxena, has been appointed as Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

Saxena took charge today, a statement said.

The KVIC is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament. In April 1957, it took over the work of former All India Khadi and Village Industries Board.

Saxena is presently Director of an upcoming port project.

He resigned from the post of Chairman of Dholera Port project last week.

Dholera port project, started as a joint venture between J K Group and Adani Group, was a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
 

He joined J K Group at Rajasthan in 1984 and worked there in various capacities. In 1998, he became CEO of green field Dholera Port project in Gujarat and later became its Director in 2007. He became Chairman of the company in 2012.

In 2008, he was accorded an international felicitation by United Nations' Decade of Sustainable Development (UNDESD), UNESCO and UNDP in association with IAEWP, USA, for his 'Outstanding Contribution to Environment Protection and Water Security.'

The KVIC is charged with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programmes for development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.
