A group of villagers today beat up four policemen when they were trying to arrest a government school teacher for allegedly recovering liquor from the backyard of his house at Sanathi.

The villagers thrashed the cops alleging that police was trying to arrest the teacher without registering any case, a police officer said adding that liquor bottles were recovered from the premises of the teacher's house in Muzaffarpur district on April 10 last.

The pistol of an ASI was snatched away by the attackers, but the weapon was returned later.

The four policemen are undergoing treatment at SKMCH, police said.
