A group of people today ransacked a ward of Calcutta National Medical College (CNMC) hospital and a police outpost near Park Circus following an argument with the security guard.

Ruckus broke out at the hospital premises after security personnel prevented the visitors of a patient from entering into the surgical ward after the visiting hours, the police said.

Peeved over the decision, the family came back accompanied by some people, barged into the ward and ransacked the furniture.

As police came to the spot, the mob attacked them too and also vandalised a local police outpost.

At least three persons were injured in the scuffle between the mob and police.

The situation was brought under control only after reinforcement came.

The patient's visitors alleged that the police resorted to lathicharge causing injury to many, which was however denied by the police.
