Andhra Pradesh government's minister for water resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao expressed confidence here today that water would flow from the Pattiseema project in an year.

The project envisages lifting 80 tmc of water from Godavari river to Krishna river so that it could be supplied to drought-hit Rayalaseema region through the Srisailam project.

Umamaheswara Rao told reporters here on Monday that the lift irrigation project has been designed to lift 8,500 cusecs of water every day from river Godavari.

He assured that lift irrigation would not harm East Godavari and West Godavari districts by diverting water from Godavari river.

He said that the project merely aims to lift excess of water which flows into the sea during floods.
