West Bengal Education Minister Partho Chatterjee today came out in support of the Presidency University Vice-Chancellor, against whom a section of students have been protesting.

"The fight is between culture and decadent culture. Anuradha Lohia is the vice-chancellor and she will remain the vice-chancellor," Chatterjee told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.

Lohia has also refused to resign saying that the protesters are only a small group of students.

A section of the students have been demanding her resignation since Friday when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the university to attend a function.

Students not only showed her black flags but tried to unsuccessfully gherao her car.

The protesting students then alleged that they were assaulted by security men who came with the chief minister and after she left, they began demanding Lohia's resignation and gheraoed her for 26 hours at her office.
