The West Bengal cabinet on Tuesday granted 98.53 acres to Purnendu Chatterjee-led The Chatterjee Group (TCG) to set up a new plant at Haldia, state Transport minister Suvendu Adhikari said.

TCG has a majority stake in Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's (MCC) Indian unit at Haldia in East Midnapore district.

"The state cabinet granted 98.53 acres to the Chatterjee Group to set up a new plant at Haldia," the minister told reporters at the state secretariat.

The work for the Rs 4500 crore plant would start from December, he said.

The MCC PTA India (MCPI) will set up the plant to produce purified terephthalic acid, Adhikari added.
